Interview with comedy writer Dave Kornfeld

May 18, 2022

Hello! We're excited to share our first-ever interview. This one is with the amazing comedy writer Dave Kornfeld. We met when he took my Game Writing Masterclass, and we've since become friends. I'm excited to introduce you to him.

Here's his bio:

I spent seven years as a writer and editor at The Onion, where I was 1/4 the voice of Uncle Joe, the Photoshop body double of President Barack Obama, and a featured contributor to an encyclopedia of all known knowledge.

Later I wrote for the immersive satirical website Thud, which was directly funded by this business fellow.

Even later than that, I consulted on a haunted house in the LA Arts District and wrote the instruction manual for Screensavers VR, a nostalgic journey through classic 90s screen savers.

And now he writes for games. He has a unique perspective on what it takes to bring comedy and games together.

In this interview, Dave answers questions like:

Why don't we see more purely-comedic games?

What are some recent examples of games that do it well?

How can studios work effectively with comedy writers?

Dave, thanks for sharing with us!
